Default Install and Configure on Dell Powervault 114T with LTO Ultrium 2

hey there,

i have a RHEL5 machine with a Dell Powervault 114T with LTO Ultrium 2. i need to use amanda (the one supplied with install, if possible) to back up a RHEL4.5 Server and a RHEL5 server also. however, i cannot get my head around how/what to change and/or do. i am fairly experienced with Linux, and command based programs, but this seems a bit more complicated. can someone please provide me with a sample amanda.conf file, or at least some instructions please!

much appreciated!

Install Amanda Server software on the server and Amanda Client software on the clients.

A Quick start guide can be found at:
http://wiki.zmanda.com/index.php/Quick_start

The following tapetype is close to what you have.
http://wiki.zmanda.com/index.php/Tapetype_definitions#Dell_PV132T_LTO2

Let's us know how it goes.

Can you run an amcheck as well and post the results.

You may also want to see if you have files in /tmp/amanda as this will shed more light on the errors you're getting.

Hi,

I would say your 'tapetype' definition in amanda.conf is wrong. I use LTO3-400, the types are defined in http://wiki.zmanda.com/index.php/Tapetype_definitions make sure this is set right.

Can you also make sure you can use the OS to just write to the tape (using tar/cpio) just to confirm it can see the drive?

Use command dd if=/dev/null of=/dev/nst0 bs=32k count=1

Replace /dev/nst0 with the path to your tape device

If the write is successful then its OK .
If its not successful you need to check your tape media or device

Use if=/dev/zero
eg. dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/nst0 bs=32k count=1
