Default backup windows

I am looking into central backup servers for 5 Windows 2003 Servers. One server has multiple databases, one has exchange, another has active directory, and the other two are less critical. How does amanda handle database backups? How does it handle NTFS permissions? Would Veritas be a better solution for my needs?

Also, where are the Windows binaries? Is the client/server in the same archive?

Hi
We have an application API proposal at
http://wiki.zmanda.com/index.php/Application_API that will make integrating with any application fairly easy. For today, if the database can be backed up as regular files, then Amanda handles that very well. We are working on solutions for the LAMP stack.
Amanda 2.5 supports Windows platform using Cgywin or Samba.

A native Windows port is in the roadmap.

Thanks
tk
