    Default WARNING: bkpc.corp.loc: selfcheck request failed: Connection refused

    Hello All,

    And thank you for your products and your support!

    I am receiving this error msg:

    "Amanda Backup Client Hosts Check
    ----------------------------------
    WARNING: bkpc.corp.loc: selfcheck request failed: Connection refused
    Client check: 1 host checked in 10.033 seconds. 1 problem found.",

    when trying to perform: amcheck daily1.

    Here are my details:

    bkpc.corp.loc
    -------------
    ubuntu 10.04
    amanda client 2.6.1
    running inetd (not xinetd)

    amanda1.corp.loc
    -----------------
    ubuntu 10.10
    amanda server 3.1.0
    running xinetd.

    EDIT: I was wrong about the inet configs. Both machines appear to have inetd and xinetd.

    Before, I was running amanda1.corp.loc with ubuntu 10.04 and amanda server 2.6.1 with no problems. However, I just installed a new amanda1 server from scratch and now I have the problem listed above.

    I am guessing this problem occurs because my amanda server (3.1.0) is not the same version as my amanda client (2.6.1), but I do not know the answer.

    However, I can say I had no problems whatsoever before upgrading to ubuntu 10.10 and amanda server 3.1.0. I was running amanda1.corp.loc with ubuntu 10.04 and amanda server 2.6.1 and it worked perfectly.

    Thank you in advance!

    Michael

    P.S. Here is the output of netstat on both client and server

    michael0@amanda1:~$ netstat -a | grep amanda
    tcp 0 0 *:amandaidx *:* LISTEN
    tcp 0 2 amanda1.corp.loc:telnet poster2.corp.loc:50916 ESTABLISHED
    udp 0 0 *:amanda *:*

    michael0@bkpc:~$ netstat -a | grep amanda
    udp 0 0 *:amanda *:*

    I'm still working on this problem. I amcheck fine from the old server as mentioned. I'm including some logfile output and configuration parameters below:

    Default Addtional Info (again)

    Hello again,

    I found this debug log and thought I'd add it to the list of information. There is one additional thing I forgot to mention. I installed telnet on this new server before installing xinetd. The old server does not have telnet, nor does it have an inetd.conf file.

    I'm going to install another server identical to amanda1, but without telnet and see if it works. I have vmware so it shouldn't be a problem. The only reason I am running telnet is becasue I am lazy I guess. I haven't learned to set up SSH yet, and well, I have nothing more to say in my defense.

    Here is the debug log and thanks in advance!

    Default Resovled

    I noticed a message at the end of the installation process that said to merge the following configuration from /usr/share/doc/amanda-common/examples/xinetd.amandaserver to /etc/xinetd.d/amanda.

    My original xinetd configs included:

    socket_type = dgram
    protocol = udp
    wait = yes

    and did not include:

    flags = IPv4.

    So I merged the original with the recommendations and everything connected. Yeah!

    Below are the xinetd parms that I ended up adding to both the client and the server:

    # default: on
    #
    # description: Amanda services for Amanda server and client.
    #

    service amanda
    {
    disable = no
    flags = IPv4
    socket_type = stream
    protocol = tcp
    wait = no
    user = backup
    group = backup
    groups = yes
    server = /usr/lib/amanda/amandad
    server_args = -auth=bsdtcp amdump amindexd amidxtaped
    }
