Question Tape rotation.

Hello,
I succesfully installed and configured amanda on my backup server but I don't really understand how work th tape rotation.
I have a Dell PowerVault changer with 8 tape.
I want to use 7 tapes for daily backup job and one to the monthly job.
So amanda will use tape one for monday, tape tow for tuesday... and the tape will be erase every week in order to have an autonomous cycle.
if somebody can help me.
Thanks

Hi guibzh
If you have not already, please take a look at

http://wiki.zmanda.com/index.php/User_documentation

Specifically, in the amanda.conf, configuration file, the following variables have to be defined per your configuration.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
dumpcycle 1 weeks # the number of days in the normal dump cycle
runspercycle 7 # the number of amdump runs in dumpcycle days
# (4 weeks * 7 amdump runs per week )
tapecycle 8 tapes # the number of tapes in rotation
# 4 weeks (dumpcycle) times 5 tapes per week (just
# the weekdays) plus a few to handle errors that
# need amflush and so we do not overwrite the full
# backups performed at the beginning of the previous
# cycle
------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you only want to use 7 tapes, I would recommend backing up only on weekdays.

Also, is the same system the client as well?

Thanks
tk
