Thread: Problem with national code page in file name

Default Cyrillic (Russian) characters

Hi everyone!

I just reinstalled Amanda for windows (ver.3.1.1) and seems like there is no changes made in codepage processing since Amanda 2.6.1.p2. Cyrillic (Russian) characters in directory names are displayed incorrectly when unpacking Amanda dump (zwc-compress method), and I got an error processing archives.

What can I do to fix it, if it possible?..

Thanx.

As I had mentioned in my earlier comment, can you please send us a sample
directories where the data is not being restored correctly?

I sent it yestarday by e-mail to community (at) zmanda.com.

Here is a text...

---

I just read and posted my reply in Zmanda Windows Client forum. It's about incorrectly displayed cyrillic (russian) characters in directory names in unpacked Amanda dump. Here is a sample of twisted dirname: "TБTВTМ" (it was originally "есть" directory name in russian CP-1251 windows charset).

Please, help solving this problem, if You can...

P.S. My Amanda is Zmanda Windows Client 3.1.1-32bit.

Takayuki,

ZWC community edition is designed to work with UTF-8. At this time we have not tested it with CP1251. I looked at the file you sent and it is showing up as garbage data on my system (possibly because Windows 7 might not handle cp-1251, I don't know). I generated a Russian test file myself encoded in UTF-8 and ZWC handled it without any issues. I am working to generate a file with CP1251 encoding that my computer can handle and will attempt to test with that as well but even if it does, it will be an unsupported feature.

Thanks for an investigation. But in my case I cannot swith that directory (needed to back up with ZWC) to UTF-8 because this is a file directory of russian program "1C accounting" and I cannot program inside an 1C for myself...

Hi.

I have the same problem on Hungarian Windows XP systems. Amanda changes the accents in filenames in the zip archive. For example "" becomes "+", "" becomes "+Ś" and so on.

I would be grateful if you could fix this problem.

Best regads,
Zoli

crt,

Which version of Zmanda Windows Client are you using? Are you using UTF-8?

It will be easier if you can send a sample files/folder to community@zmanda.com.
