Thread: 3.0 and Ubuntu 8.04 install....

1. #1

Default 3.0 and Ubuntu 8.04 install....

I was excited about a version(3.0) of ZMC for Ubuntu 8.04.2 LTS. However, I hit a couple fo bumps on install. The following dependencies were listed in the "ZMC User's Guide": libcurl3-gnutls, libreadline5, libglib2.0-0. In addition, installation errored out with xinetd, mailx and mtx needed. Each time I uninstalled, installed the requested package with the Synaptic installer and reinstalled ZMC. The oddest part is when I went to install mtx. The Synaptic installer indicated it had to uninstall amanda. I let it (not sure what it did but it did not take more that a flash). I then manually uninstalled and reinstalled ZMC.

Current problems: no list of tape changers to choose from (select from list and Other).

The ZMC display is looking poorly if I use https://localhost. Firefox complains that YUI JS cannot be loaded from server....If I use https://192.168.0.219 I get compalint about expired certificate. I accept exception and the display looks OK.

Suggestions of nature that can be repeated in public?
Thanks
Paul Jagger

xinetd, mailx and mtx was documented under "Linux RPM" section. This section was applicable for all Linux packages. This documentation error will be corrected in the next documentation release.

ZMC tries to discover tape changers by looking at some device directories (such as /dev/sg* and so on). What is your changer device name? If ZMC fails to discover device, no list of
tape changers can be found. Please choose "Other" and input the device changer name.

Are you trying to access the Management console over a slow link?

Can you please provide example of "ZMC display looking poorly"? Are you using Firefox 3.0?

thanks,
Paddy

I will try to get Ubuntu to see the changer (SONY TSL-1100)
Not a slow link - on server(localhost = 192.168.0.219)
Yes Firefox 3.0.11 - complains about YUI JS cannot load - formatting lost. All items crowded on left side of the screen. I could send a sceenshot.

YUI JS has to load. Otherwise, formatting may not work. Can you please open a support call?
We will need you to provide logs by running /opt/zmanda/amanda/bin/zm-support tool.

Support team will help you analyze why JS did not load.

thanks,
Paddy

It is ok if ZMC does not discover changers automatically. Please choose "Other" and fill in the
changer device name (/dev/sg2). BTW, do you have "mt" command on the server?

thanks,
Paddy

Ok, perhaps we can get back on track. Where should I send the debug info generated by the zm-support tool?

I'm assuming that you still seeing JS not loading issue. Please open a support call (Login to
Zmanda Network with your id, Click on Support tab). You should be able to open a support case.

No,

That seems to have been fixed by being sure to be logged in as su on intstall.

What I need now is to be able to access the two tape devices as shown on the previous logs. Yes, mtx is installed but it does not see the drives. A next step to try would be very appreciated.
