this is a problem with pre-built packages. somewhere inside executables as it looks there is a hardcoded user name. i had the same problem.

we are using amanda to back up some files to tapes for long term storage and i find it really inconvenient there is NO info on the files stored except file names.

if you really just want to re-create the vtape, first run amrmtape to maintain your records integrity... then you may recreate the dir and amlabel it.

the trick was to start from the client
ssh mfs01 -l amandabackup
and accept the key.
this is somehow never mentioned like that in the docs... or at least i missed it :-)
