Yes 12/30 differential backup is not needed to restore to 12/31 state.

You need to start with most recent full, follow it with most recent level 1 and most recent level 2 .... to restore the DLE...

Only way to do this is using jets3t tool available in the Zmanda Network downloads page.

If you remember the server name, you can perform the recover catalog on another machine.

If you are looking for a specific file, you can find it in index (/etc/amanda/<configuration name>/index directory).
I'm assuming you are using gnu tar for backups.

For Windows pre-backup scripts, no server configuration is required. Only client configuration is required.

Please contact services team (email services at zmanda dot com). The backup zip file and Amanda logs will be needed. They can make an attempt to recover the files.
