    That is normal, it happened to me too :-) tape_splitsize is limited to 2Gb on 32-bit operating systems, and comes out of swap space, so may not even be 2Gb.

    Eventually we came to the end of our pre-labelled tapes. The worst thing that could happen was for the backup to crash, not write EOT, close index files, or produce a report; the 5+Tb already written...

    Hmmm... good point. OS is 32-bit Debian, CPU is 32-bit Intel Xeon. Might be a 64-bit system in my future. Can I suggest that the recommendation in the doco for tape_spitsize to be 1/10 of the tape...

    More details of my config might be helpful...

    The server has 1G of RAM and 2G in a swap partition; I added 7 more swap files of 2G each so that amanda could mmap the tape_splitsize-sized workfile....
