Hello,

I have used the search option to look for this in this forum but it showed no results.

I just have a single drive local that I use for archive to tape and I think I clean the tape out every week. but here is what I get.

3.4G on my /dev/hda8 partition.

start=$(date +"%u")

echo $start;

echo "Start with clean tape ";
/usr/local/sbin/amrmtape DailySet1 DailySet1-$start;
/usr/local/sbin/amlabel -f DailySet1 DailySet1-$start slot $start;

echo "Starting amccleanup";
/usr/local/sbin/amcleanup DailySet1

echo "Starting amcheck";
/usr/local/sbin/amcheck -mawsclt DailySet1

echo "Starting amdump";
/usr/local/sbin/amdump DailySet1
/usr/local/sbin/amstatus DailySet1

These dumps were to tape DailySet1-1.
The next tape Amanda expects to use is: a new tape.

FAILURE AND STRANGE DUMP SUMMARY:
bckup.asdf.com /dev/hda8 lev 1 FAILED [dump larger than available tape space, 2237094 KB, skipping incremental]

Am I missing something obvious or does anyone have any ideas on this one?

I also got this

driver: WARNING: got empty schedule from planner

The final message sounds like your planner is not producing a schedule. Are your estimates working correctly? The log you show above seems to be OK.

I'm not sure why your script runs 'amrmtape' and 'amlabel' on every invocation, or what kind of tape drive you're using, but from the look of it, well, your dump is larger than your available tape size, so Amanda can't do anything. You'll need to get bigger tapes, turn on tape spanning, or split up /dev/hda8 into smaller DLEs.

hmm

Well the tapes are 50G Native and 100GB compressed.

It should fit.
