View Full Version : Multiple Drive Tape Library

Hello,
I'm currently backing up about 800 GB / night, and that will grow. I've got a
3-drive LTO-3 Library, but so far, I've only been able to figure out how to
write to one drive with an AMANDA config. It will sequentially write multiple
tapes with one drive.

Can AMANDA handle writing to multiple drives with multiple tapes at once?

I noticed the RAIT thing, but I don't really like it as much as writing dumps to
individual drives. I'll do it if I have to, but I'll be adding as many as 6 drives
to this library in the future, that's a heck of a "RAIT".

I also noticed a config where you can use multiple stand-alone drive with the
chg-multi "changerdev", but I couldn't figure out how to meld that with the
chg-zd-mtx that I'm using now.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

You can use multiple configurations to backup to two different tape drives. This will work only if you can partition the 800 GB you are backing up into sets of DLEs.

We are working on more efficient way of doing this using Device API is completed. See http://wiki.zmanda.com/index.php/Device_API for Device API details.

Hi Paddy,
First, thanks for the info on the Device API project, I look forward to when that
is completed!

For now it looks like I'll have to do multiple configs.

QUESTION: How does AMANDA, with mtx, and using chg-zd-mtx handle
concurrency with respect to the robot? Will the "fighting" amanda
processes keep trying and eventually get control of the robot?

Thanks
