View Full Version : Can't label changer tapes...

I'm using amanda 2.5.1p3 with virtual tapes and a changer as descrivbed in the Wiki. I've gotten to the part where I need to label the tapes and it's failing as follows:

amlabel daily DailySet1-1 slot 1
amlabel: could not load slot "1": could not read result from "/usr/lib/amanda/chg-disk"

The configuration is named "daily" and /usr/lib/amanda/chg-disk exists, is executable and is owned by amandabackup:disk.

Possibly the problem is with my /etc/amanda/daily/amanda.conf. There are conflicting areas of the wiki that indicate what should go here. Here's mine:

runtapes 1
tpchanger "chg-disk"
tapedev "file:/space/amanda-vtapes/tape"
rawtapedev "/dev/null"
changerfile "/etc/amanda/daily/changer.conf"
changerdev "/dev/null"

The file structure for the virtual tapes is:
ls /space:
amandahold amanda-vtapes

ls /space/amanda-vtapes:

ls /space/amanda-vtapes/daily:

ls /space/amanda-vtapes/daily/slots:
data slot10 slot13 slot16 slot19 slot21 slot24 slot4 slot7
info slot11 slot14 slot17 slot2 slot22 slot25 slot5 slot8
slot1 slot12 slot15 slot18 slot20 slot23 slot3 slot6 slot9

Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

tapedev "file:/space/amanda-vtapes/tape"

tapedev "file://space/amanda-vtapes/daily/slots"

Give this a try!

Thanks! That did it!

Note that the double slash is superfluous (but harmless), and single slash works just as well.

tapedev "file:/space/amanda-vtapes/daily/slots"

and is less confusing about syntax.
