View Full Version : S3 Bucket names are too restrictive

Sorry, I couldn't see the most appropriate place to post issues, so I chose here!

In Amanda 3.2.3 the regex used to validate the subdomain name is more restrictive than the Amazon S3 naming rules, resulting in the message "'Location constraint given for Amazon S3 bucket, but the bucket name (bucket1.mydomain.com-backups) is not usable as a subdomain.'"

Here is the regex:
File s3.c (http://amanda.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/amanda/amanda/branches/3_2/device-src/s3.c?revision=4081&view=markup), Line 1403:

{"^[a-z0-9](-*[a-z0-9]){2,62}$", REG_EXTENDED | REG_NOSUB, &subdomain_regex},

A link to the Amazon S3 naming rules can be found at http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/AmazonS3/latest/dev/index.html?BucketRestrictions.html.

The same issue also seems to apply to 3.3 code branch.
