Hi.

I am so nearly there in terms of being able to use this software.

I think the reason it fails is due to volume/label settings...

As a test I am trying to copy /data (1.3 TB) to tapes.

I have 16 X 1.6 TB tapes in a neo 200s tape device.

I did a dump yesterday - it shows partial success (below)

---------------------------------

-sh-3.2$ amreport CWCS_BACKUP
Hostname: backup.cwcs.co.uk
Org : MyConfig
Config : CWCS_BACKUP
Date : May 11, 2011

These dumps were to tape cwcs.
There are 240k of dumps left in the holding disk.
Run amflush to flush them to tape.

The next 4 tapes Amanda expects to use are: 4 new tapes.

Is the reason its failing due to labelling ?

My tapelist file just has

20110511181059 cwcs reuse

- should there be more tapes in there ? If so how do I add them ?

See the end of this post for my full config.

I had to remove the labelstr in order to label the a tape cwcs - I have tried this

labelstr "cwcs[0-9][0-9]"
autolabel "cwcs%%" EMPTY VOLUME_ERROR

- that won't work (no acceptable volumes)

I can't label tape with those config options set - i get

cwcs' doesn't match labelstr 'cwcs[0-9][0-9]'.

If I remove the labelstr line I can - but it is only one tape....

Any help would be welcomed.

This is the closest I have got to doing a full backup ...

Maybe the tape can't be autolabeled because they are not empty.
run: amtape CWCS_BACKUP show

If there is something on the tape, amanda will not autolabel them, you must label them with 'amlabel -f'

You can also try amcheck

Hi

Thank you to everybody who responded.

Here are the commands:-

All I want to do is label the tapes I believe - or is the changer to blame ?

If I wipe all tapes will that help ?
Is it possible to wipe the labels of all tapes ?

As mentioned I have 16 X 1.6 TB tapes.

Any help would be really welcomed - I've been on this for days...

Thanks everybody!

Amanda will not usa a tape with a label that do not match the labelstr.

As you did not set a tpchanger, amanda will never change the tape automatically.

see amanda-changers, and configure a chg-robot.
