I'm getting a weird problem that's suddenly come up (none of us can think of a reason). All our clients which still use xinetd/inetd (instead of running Amanda just over ssh) have now started failing.

The output from amcheck is:

Amanda Backup Client Hosts Check
--------------------------------
WARNING: acproc.hq.eso.org: selfcheck request failed: error sending REQ: send REQ to acproc.hq.eso.org failed: Socket operation on non-socket
Client check: 1 host checked in 0.011 seconds, 1 problem found

(brought to you by Amanda 2.5.2p1)

The weird thing is if I run a packet sniff on the client machine (acproc in this example) I see no packets being sent or received from the backup server.

Well I never got to the bottom of this, I just switched all my clients to using ssh auth and transport instead.
