We wrote a technical document that describes what to consider and how to configure ZRM for secure backup and recovery of remote MySQL server http://www.zmanda.com/zrm-over-internet.html

It would be interesting to hear about your own experience in backup and recovery of remote MySQL, e.g. when it is located at managed hosting provider.

Hi Dmitri,

I am investigating ZRM as a backup tool for backing up the remote mysql dbase's from customer servers.
The setup i tried is with the socket-server plugin.
I noticed the following:

=> No incremental backups possible.
This is really a pitty since this is something you really want to do when making remote backups. Especially when the database becomes real large it is undo-able to do a full backup from several remote servers every day.

=> Reporting doesn't work when using mysql-zrm-scheduler with option "--now"?
This seems to be the case. I made an ad-hoc backup with the following command:
"mysql-zrm-scheduler --now --backup-set singsing"
The backup succeeded succesfull and when i was trying to get a report i get this:
----------------------
# mysql-zrm-reporter --where backup-set=singsing --show restore-info
REPORT TYPE : restore-info
----------------------
And that's it!. Does this mean that my ad-hoc backup isn't restorable?

So far my experiences and feedback.

Hi again,

I turned out that i was to fast with my conclusions.
I have been able to do incremental backups and the reporting also works fine now.

Excuses.
