We are considering backing up via Amanda to swappable
USB drives instead of tapes. The drives would be swapped
out daily just like tapes are now.

Anyone have experience with this?
Can Amanda view daily USB drives as it does daily tapes?

Thanks,

Not as far as I know. With 2.5" 2 terabyte drives lurking out there, that sounds like an interesting option.

I suspect all you need to do is write a changer, which would check for the currently mounted partition containing the correct drive. If it wasn't the correct drive, the changer would ask for it and wait until it had a new drive, then loop back to the check.

I am looking to do something similar, I have a system that has 8 TB of data that I would like to back up to 2 TB Hard Drives, I would like to plug one of these drives into the system at a time and swap them when full.

I am not much of a programmer so I don’t know if I could write a changer.

Thank You
