Automatically remove binary logs

I’ve currently got a logical backup set that runs a full backup every Sunday and incremental Monday-Saturday.

I’d rather not leave my MySQL binary logs around for too long and I was excited when I saw the blog post about using post backup plugin to “purge master logs”. This seems great but my only concern is if the backup fails, will this plugin still be run? It would probably be a bad idea to wipe the binary logs if the backup wasn’t 100% successful.

Thanks in advance

You have a valid point. The blog assumes that the backup is successful. The
post backup plugins are run even when backup fails.

You can find the status of backup run using mysql-zrm-reporter (http://mysqlbackup.zmanda.com/index.php/Mysql-zrm-reporter) in the
post-backup plugin script. Use the backup-status-info report.

We will consider enhancing the post backup plugin interface include the
status of the backup in the next release.

Hi Paddy,

Thanks for the clarification and quick reply. I’ll hack up a script to grab the status information from the report in the mean time but if you guys eventually include the status information for the plugin that would be very handy :)

Thanks for creating such an great product, keep up the good work!
