View Full Version : Backup via TCP/UDP ????

Good Morning .

I am new to this forum and have a pretty basic question.
Is there a Windows client for Amanda which will perform backups using
TCP/IP (either TC or UDP) protocols, or only using a Samba Share ?

That way, we can backup remote machines, when the client can "reach"
the server.

Thank you

Pavel --

been recovering data from a SCO OSR5 system for the past 30+ hours and
just got back here.

Are you saying "Yes", that the Windows client will work over a TCP/IP stack and does NOT require a Samba share ?

If so, where can I find installation and configuration documentation ?

Thank you

You can find the images in Zmanda downloads (http://www.zmanda.com/downloads.html) page.

Instructions for Windows client are on Amanda wiki (http://wiki.zmanda.com/index.php/Windows_client).

Hi Paddy (or whom it may concern) -

I've reviewed and followed the installation instruction for the windows client configuration on the WIKI. It is clear that when utilizing SAMBA on the server backup process is straightforward.

However it provides no solution for a remote-backup scenario, specifically:

The client that needs to be backup is not on the same network as the server. Their only method of communication is via TCP/IP (any port) - (eg: a remote user with no VPN).

Does the open source windows client support backup to the server in this scenario? And if so where is the documentation on how to configure this; as once again the current Wiki does not contain it.

Thanks in advance,
