I too am running Debian Lenny and am having some issues getting Amanda configured. I used 'apt-get install amanda-server' on my server box and I used 'apt-get install amanda-client' on the box that has the data that I want backed up.

I can't seem to find any helpful documentation for configuring Amanda for Lenny. It'd be very helpful if someone involved in the development of Amanda could help us out.

For example, after installing via apt-get install I cd to /etc/amanda and the directory is empty. Most how-to's that I run into say that there should be some things in this dir.

Maybe I could install from source?? If so, can someone please provide some guidance as how to do this and get things configured?

Please help.

Debian Lenny packages are available at Zmanda downloads page (select 2.6.1p2)

http://www.zmanda.com/download-amanda.php. Please see wiki.zmanda.com for how tos and quickstart guide.
