View Full Version : backing up a real huge mysql db

hello again...

i got to backup a heavy used database (lots of inserts, deletes etc), the size is about 80gb at the moment. how can i minimize the downtime of the database during a normal backup (creating sql dumps with zrm).

perhaps with a replication to the zrm server?

any suggestions?

thanks :)

Following methods will work:

1. LVM snapshots
2. Backup from replication slave

Both have advantages and disadvantages (LVM snapshot will take a read lock for
short time, replication slave can be behind the master).
