View Full Version : Is amanda right for us.

Did a search and read some threads. Trying to find the right solutions for us.

We are backing up databases. One is a medical @ 100GB and the other a MSSQL at <1GB. We expect both to double in the next 2-3 months.
We are using Windows 2003 Server Standard and that has the information (with mapped drives to another 2003 server with other info.
We need to backup over a SSL/SSH or equivalent tunnel.
Our backups should be encrypted as well.
We need to use Delta backups to conserve bandwidth because of the 100GB database.
We were thinking of using Nirvanix or possible S3.
Can this be done with the Amanda software? How would it interface with Nirvanix? I notice that a Amanda offers S3 backups with the purchase of a server license. Would it be the same with Nirvanix? Also I can't find much info on the GUI, while I am trying to learn CYGWIN, I don't think my company's backups is a good place to start for that.

Thank you.

Amanda Enterprise would be an ideal solution for you.

Amanda Server will interface with Amazon S3. (Currently there is no binding with Nirvanix). Zmanda's SQL Server Agent will do full and incremental backups of your MSSQL Database. All backed up data will go to the Amanda Server, which will compress and encrypt data before shipping it over to S3.
