Thread: immortalize a backup, but it's on a tape with other backups

Default immortalize a backup, but it's on a tape with other backups

I have a level zero dump of a system on a virtual tape. The vtape also contains backups of other systems. I'd like to immortalize the level zero dump. Normally, I'd force a level zero dump of a system, and then mark the vtape as "no-reuse" in the tapelist. But this level zero dump is already on a vtape that contains other systems' dumps as well.

Can I move the other dumps off of the vtape and then mark it no-reuse?

    Constantine,

I have no idea how amrecover will deal with having the other backups from the 'immortalized' backups removed. On backups that I want to keep around long term I generally just copy the level 0 back to a directory called /archive/backname. The datestamp on the file helps me remember. If I need that data I'll do a manual restore.
